Two Tunisians who were abducted in Libya earlier this year have been freed by their captors, according to AFP.
A diplomat along with another embassy staff member spent months in captivity after being kidnapped by militiamen who allegedly demanded the release of Libyan prisoners in Tunisia.
Mohamed ben Sheikh was captured on March 21 while his colleague, Al Aroussi Kontassi, was abducted in April.
“They have been freed and should be returning to Tunisia soon,” an embassy source told AFP, confirming that the pair were in good health.
According to the source, Tunisia’s government did comply with demands from the kidnappers.
Libya has seen a rising wave of violence from militias since the toppling of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
