Tunisia's UGTT announced Wednesday on its Facebook page that protests are scheduled to be held in different locations outside the capital today, according to AFP. Thursday's protests may serve as the launch of a nationwide movement intended to put pressure on Ennahda, the ruling Islamist-led coalition, after it rejected a roadmap to end the two-month political crisis in the country.
UGTT, the author of the roadmap plan, has served as the mediator between Ennahda and the opposition groups during the crisis, and has accused the Islamist-led coalition of "pursuing its own interests at the expense of the nation" by rejecting the plan earlier this week.
According to UGTT, Ennahda's rejection of the stipulation that calls for its resignation within a three-week deadline means they have rejected the roadmap, despite the Islamist-led group's statements announcing their acceptance of the document late last week.
