At least four Tunisian soldiers were killed from land mines Wednesday in their offensive on jihadists in the country's northwest region, according to Agence France Presse.
Defense Ministry spokesman Rachid Bouhoula told AFP that "Four soldiers aboard a Hummer were killed by a land mine explosion during an anti-terror operation [at Jebel Ouergha in Kef governorate]."
On Tuesday, a roadside bomb exploded in the Kef region, leaving four soldiers along with two policeman wounded. A few days earlier, another roadside bomb injured a policeman in the same area.
Jihadist movements in Tunisia developed in the country's more remote regions under Islamist Ennahda leadership following the oust of former dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in 2011. However, Ennahda resigned from power over growing public criticism, and an interim government is now in place ahead of this fall's planned polls.
