A cigarette vendor who set himself on fire in protest against unemployment has died.
“This is a young man who sells cigarettes because of unemployment,” shouted Adel Khadri before immolating himself on Habib Bourguiba Avenue. He died as a result of severe burns on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place as the Tunisian parliament was preparing to vote on a new bill to halt the political crisis that has engulfed the country.
The 27 year old Khadri had arrived in the Tunisian capital a few months ago in search of a job, after leaving the northwestern locality of Jendoubam due to the scarcity of work.
