Tunisia Reports Boost in Exports

Tunisian trade authorities has announced that the country’s exports were up 23 percent, reaching TD2,449.8 million ($1=TD1.42) in the first quarter of 2001, Panafrican News Agency (PANA) reported. 

Imports were also into an upward thrust, recording an increase of more than 28 percent, said the agency. 

Export coverage of imports reached 71.7 percent - a slight drop compared to the same period in 2000 (74.5 percent). 

According to a communiqué from the National Statistics Institute (INS), the evolution of exports in the first quarter of 2001 results from increases in textile exports (29 percent), hides and skins (43 percent), mechanical and electric industries (50.8 percent) and exports of phosphates and by-products (9.7 percent) – Albawaba.com
