The Tunisian parliament has approved a secular-Islamist coalition government with 166 out of 217 votes, reports Reuters.

The coalition cabinet consists of secularists, Islamists, and other smaller parties, and is headed by Prime Minister Habib Essid.

"Our priority will be to strengthen measures to combat extremism and strengthen security capabilities to confront terrorism and the protection of the democratic transition," Essid said in parliament.

“We have made changes ... to widen the composition of the government with the participation of other political parties,” said Essid when he had originally proposed the coalition government

Tunisia has been considered the one true success story of the 2011 Arab Spring, and this is just one more step in the transition to full democracy.
