ALBAWABA - U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a bill to reopen the federal government, ending the country's longest shutdown in history, CNN reported.
Trump said that the legislation is considered a victory over Democrats, referring to it as "a clear message that we will never give in to extortion, because that’s what it was, they tried to extort."
Trump's approval came after the House voted 222 to 209 to pass a deal agreed between Republicans and centrist Senate Democrats to reopen the government for January.
The bill also includes the funding of main agencies for the remainder of fiscal year 2026.
The agreement will also reverse the mass federal layoffs ordered by the U.S. president during the federal government shutdown.
The government shutdown continued for 43 days paralyzing the country and leaving hundreds of thousands of workers unpaid.
