A bomb hidden in a truck has exploded in the Afghan capital Kabul, killing at least eight people and wounding nearly 200.
Police said the pre-dawn blast happened near an army compound and that all of the victims were civilians - including women and children.
Officials have warned that the death toll could rise as nearby homes and shops collapsed, potentially leaving bodies buried in the wreckage.
The health ministry said 198 people had been wounded.
A security source told Reuters that the target was probably a compound used by Afghan intelligence officials.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Afghan security forces have sustained heavy losses in their ongoing battle with the Taliban.
