In a strategic initiative that could change the face of the US $3.4 billion man-made textiles exports from India, the, Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) is organising  Source India 2010, a 2-day high-profile business-to-business (B-2-B) event to engage importers especially from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Middle East countries and African continent.

Source India 2010 will be held under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Mumbai on 28th and 29th January 2010 and will showcase the latest range of world class textile products from India.

According to SRTEPC, export of Man-made Fibre Textiles reached an all time high of  Rs.15,768 crores (US$ 3426 million) during 2008-09 registering a growth of over 17% in rupee term compared to 2007-08.   

Exports to Middle East stood at Rs. 4800 crores (US$ 1040 million) in 2008-09.  UAE is the top market for Indian MMF Textiles with exports worth nearly Rs.2450 crores (US$ 532 million). UAE is also an important market for re-export in the entire Middle East, CIS and North Africa region.  Other leading markets in Middle East are Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, Israel, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Jordan & Lebanon.

Fabrics constituted to be bulk of the exports to the Middle East Region with a share of 52% followed by Yarn 31%, Made-ups 11% and Fibre 6%. The leading markets for MMF Fabrics in Middle East are UAE, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iran, Kuwait and Turkey.  And leading markets for MMF Yarns are Turkey, Syria, UAE, Iran, Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Over 100 manufacturers from the industry will display a wide range of products to more than 150 international buyers from over 18 countries from the Middle-East, North Africa and South Asia. The event will also offer the finest range of market-specific products aimed at specific countries and their buying habits.

The Indian government led by its Commerce Ministry has taken a special initiative of playing the host for all delegates who will be coming from the Gulf region as well as from the African countries. Thus Delegates from all these countries can avail of this special arrangement made by the Indian authorities to be present in Mumbai on 28th and 29th January 2010.

“It is a unique effort towards highly focussed and sharply targeted export promotion,” said Mr. Ganesh Kumar Gupta, Chairman, SRTEPC. “Through Source India 2010 we will connect the Indian man-made textile manufacturers and exporters with leading international buyers as well as Indian brands and retailers, and substantially raise trade volumes between India and the prime markets for these products, from the current level of Rs.15,767crore (US$ 3426.43 million). We are expecting 1500 to 2000 informed visitors to the event, Mr Gupta added.

Source India 2010 will also feature three fashion shows, conceptualised by renowned choreographer Marc Robinson, depicting collections from 30 prominent fashion designers. Each one of these fashion shows is being individually conceptualized to depict the depth and breadth of application possibilities with the Indian man-made fabrics and fashion accessories to the buyers. 

Source India product range includes basic and fancy yarns, apparel fabrics like suiting, shirting and dress materials; trimmings and embellishments like laces, embroideries and appliqués; fashion accessories like stoles, scarves and shawls; home textiles like furnishing fabrics, cushion covers, bed covers, table and kitchen linen and so on; and a range of technical textiles for high performance clothing, industrial and specialised applications where India has just started stepping in

In the true spirit of globalisation and through an integrated approach towards export promotion, SRTEPC has decided to also open this B2B event to the sourcing offices of global brands and retailers located in India, Indian apparel exporters who need yarns and fabrics for their apparel export production and large Indian brands and retailers who are today looking at global sourcing, so that they have simultaneous access to the world-class Indian materials for their onward production.
