Libya news reports that the Tripoli police chief was killed outside a police station in the Al-Andalus neighborhood on Saturday.
According to an official statement, a group of unknown gunmen arrived at the police station early Saturday morning and shot at the building, killing head sergeant Abdelhamid Jumaa' Saber.
A former head of the Tripoli police was also assassinated in 2014. Colonel Muhammad Suwaysi was shot in Tajoura, and two of his colleagues were kidnapped, according to BBC.
Over ten Libyan officers have been killed in targeted shootings in the past month.
After the shooting of Colonel Ahmed Gaith in front of his home on May 7th, the Libyan security directorate issued a warning for officers to take extra precautions, according to Alarabiya.net. Despite increased security, the shootings have continued.
No organization has claimed responsibility for the assassinations.
