The head of Egyptian TV's news department Mohammed al-Wakil is to go on trial on October 27 in a high state security court on corruption charges, court sources said on Sunday.

A doctor, Fakher Fuad Guendi, television producer and university professor Ahmed al-Hassissi, and Hani Abdel Latif, another employee of the state TV, will stand trial along with Wakil, AFP reported.

The news chief was arrested on July 7 in his office, allegedly as Hassissi was handing him a bribe of 10,000 pounds (around 2,000 dollars).

Guendi allegedly gave the bribe to Hassissi and Latif and asked them to pass it on to the news chief to invite the doctor to appear on Wakil's chat show, "Hello Egypt", to publicize Guendi's clinic. The three television employees are being held behind bars while Guendi, who is accused of bribing a state employee, was released following police questioning. (Albawaba.com)
