NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) and Trend Micro Incorporated (TSE: 4704, NASDAQ: TMIC), have reached an agreement for NCR to resell Trend Micro™ Network VirusWall 300 to its customers and resellers. NCR will also offer services for the installation and maintenance of this small hardware device. It will function as a dedicated anti-virus/firewall mechanism on NCR self-service solutions, as well as for systems from other vendors.  The agreement will initially run for three years.

Trend Micro Network VirusWall 300 is a vendor and platform independent solution that protects systems such as a bank's self-service network, from network viruses.  Before network viruses can damage any individual self-service solution, they are automatically detected and removed from the network.  Infected systems can be automatically cleaned of any network viruses. The main advantage of this method is that it cannot adversely affect the function and speed of the automated teller machines (ATMs).  Virus scanners installed directly on the self-service solutions, however, can slow down the transactions and endanger the function of the entire system.

“Trend Micro’s  NVW 300 appliance is ideally suited to protecting systems such as automated teller machines, and through this new relationship with  NCR, Trend Micro is able to offer banks and their customers, further security against the potential threats of viruses”, said Justin Doo, managing director, Trend Micro Middle East and Africa.  “We are very excited about this new relationship with NCR. Together we can help provide customers peace of mind from the potential threat posed by network viruses and the damage they could cause.”

“Ever since the first PC was put into an ATM over 10 years ago, software security has been a number one priority for NCR and is a key element of NCR’s holistic security portfolio.  The ATM channel continues to be the ‘trusted environment’ of choice for retail banking customers with up to 80 per cent of all transactions taking place at the ATM and this will continue to grow as more transaction types migrate to the self-service channel.  NCR recognises that banks want to continue to minimize risk and have choice in the way they secure their ATM environment.  Due to this NCR provides flexibility in its holistic approach to ATM software security.  This reseller agreement offers our customers the opportunity to complement their ATM security approach with an anti-virus
Product,” said Michael Marheineke, area vice president, NCR Financial Solutions Division for Central Europe.
