At least twenty passengers were killed and 90 wounded after an overnight express train derailed in the southern part of India Saturday, according to a top railway official.

The official, who was at the site, said that at least 20 people were killed when the express train from the southern city of Hyderabad derailed in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh state at about 1:15 am (local time), AFP said.

Ten bodies were recovered from one carriage alone, he said, adding that 90 people had been injured, some of them seriously.

Nine carriages of the train rolled over and two came off the track when the train, bound for Bangalore, was moving at around 80 to 100 kilometers per hour, officials said. (Albawaba.com)
