Topshop launches enticing Autumn Winter collection
Topshop’s 2008 Autumn/Winter collection displays an enticing line of oversized tops, tights, skinny pants and chunky ankle boots. Overriding colour is black with a splash of striking bright colours to balance the look. Also in stores are knitwear, palette, capes, chiffons, and leather items.
The four main looks for the season display gothic undertones, military styles, brilliant colours and fine knits.
Darkside
A darkly romantic collection with gothic undertones, the Darkside emphasises intricate detailing. Lightweight chiffon shirting has placement prints of inky crushed petal and painterly strokes, trousers of jet-black soft leather and denim have tapered ankles and animal-print treatments. Fine leather fringing is applied to soft jersey and translucent press-dry floral and lace prints appear on silk vests. Laddered knitwear reveals a dark, tonal palette of liquorice and midnight blue highlighted by lilac, nude and cream layers of tulle.
Bags are fringed, while shoes are pointed, with fine stiletto-like heels.
Bandstand
An irreverent and quirky take on Military styles, frogging, cord-roping and brass buttons appear on Majorette coats and soft woollen tasselled jackets. Dresses and blouses are in washed out flag colours of berry and plum mixed with grey, lavender and tobacco. A Sherlock cape with layered frills is thrown over a silk slip-dress with hoisted-up hemline. A chic intarsia knit jumper is striped, with Trompe l’ oeuil detailing while a navy polo shirt with red and white striped trim bears a rosette.
Shoe-boots and ankle boots with an equestrian influence, complete the story.
Wonderland
A joyful collection of brilliantly coloured, rich fabrics in exaggerated shapes have a dressed-up, Mad Hatters tea party feel. Playful, Piro-esque clown collars over neat, structured organza dresses and Harlequin and club scatter-print silk dresses jostle with velvet polka dots on full skate skirts and flirty knife-pleat chiffon blouses. A faded circus-print T and black Tux jacket are paired down against an otherwise vivid palette of saturated red, pink, Yves Klein and royal blue and mint.
Glitter coated stilettos and colour block patent mary janes are topped off with bright clutch bags.
Sedition
Oversized, soft checked coats in hairy yarns and intarsia mohair knits envelop the wearer while black leather, puppy tooth and tartan pencil skirts or flat front tapered jeans strike a slimmed silhouette. Punky snake and leopard print appears on jacquard silk and tailoring fabrics while bodies and tonic fabric lend a touch of 1990’s inspired suiting. Soft smoke, purple and lipstick coral appears on fine knits, feathered animal print blouses and treated cotton jeans.
Buckles and studs on belts and zip-up pointed ankle boots mix with softer envelope clutches.
