The Egyptian prosecutor has referred the undersecretary of the Ministry of Information to a disciplinary court on charges of directing government radio and TV projects to King Tut for Media Production, a firm in which he owns a stake.
Ali Galal and a number of his subordinates are charged with abuse of authority in the case, which was revealed last April on the pages of the Cairo-based Akhbar Al Yawm newspaper.
Investigators accused Galal of holding two jobs, one at the ministry and another at King Tut.
This is in addition to implementing six government projects in the late 1990s, in violation of laws prohibiting state employees from bidding in any tenders issued by their own agencies.
Other charges were leveled against four employees at the undersecretary’s office, as well as the husband of his office director.
The daily said in its latest issue that the charges were supported by testimony from directors who were involved in the projects carried out by the company.
The directors admitted that they had dealt directly with Ali Galal and his office at the ministry.
The report said Galal told the prosecutor that he had personally taken responsibility for dealing with banks on behalf of King Tut was because his son, a partner in the company, was abroad for a period ending last May – Albawaba.com
