Within an unprecedented charity program during the holy month of Ramadan, Tkiyet Um Ali launched its "Make Zakat" campaign to encourage the public to give alms to Jordanian families who lack the basic needs of food and shelter.
"Make Zakat" falls in line with Tkiyet Um Ali's long-term goals to eradicate hunger in Jordan by 2015, being part of the organization's series of Ramadan campaigns that target underprivileged families who reside in impoverished and remote areas across the Kingdom. The campaign has been developed in accordance with a Fatwa issued by the grand Mufti of Jordan, who declared that Zakat funds could be invested in the purchase of food aid for poor families who do not possess any source of livelihood, since they are the most deserving of alms giving.
Tkiyet Um Ali has also devised a number of free public services to facilitate the calculation and collection of this Zakat: the "Zakat Gauge," "The Collection Agents" as well as direct assistance provided for the public at major commercial centers in the country.
On the launch of "Make Zakat," Director General of Tkiyet Um Ali said: "This campaign aims to shed light on the significance of Zakat as a religious duty that emphasizes compassion with the poor, and helps in ridding society of the plight of poverty. Tkiyet Um Ali prioritizes complete transparency in the handling of funds, and those who performed their Zakat can regularly check up on the condition of the family in question via an SMS service to make sure that the food donations went to their rightful owners."
Tkiyet Um Ali also offers every person who plans to care for the food supply of a disadvantaged family with a case file that contains documented information on the family's financial status and commitments, income, rent and utility bills, in addition to any urgent health conditions.
Donations for "Make Zakat" could be given over the phone 06-4916800 or sent directly to Tkiyet Um Ali's address or in Tkiyet Um Ali's Bank account designated for Zakat.
