Three suicide bombers and gunmen attacked targeted several police stations in the Afghan capital Wednesday, authorities said.

The first bomber struck a police station in the western part of Kabul, according to Interior Ministry spokesman Najib ISIS.

Gunfire was also reported during the "cleanup operation" following the blast.

Two different suicide bombers then struck the entrance of a police station in the city center, ISIS added.

Officials say at least six were wounded in the blasts, but that number is expected to rise.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Danesh said Afghanistan's special forces unit arrived at the areas and are trying to bring the situation under control.

The attacks follow a bombing Sunday inside a mosque in eastern Afghanistan that was being used as a voter registration center. More than a dozen people died and 33 were injured in that attack.
