Three people were killed Sunday in political violence in Bangladesh, pushing the total number who have died in the past two days to 10, police and reports said.
Police said that the three were killed in clashes between supporters of outgoing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed's Awami League and the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Kushtia, in the west of the country.
"Some 100 more were injured after both sides broke a ban on rallies and marches," a police officer told AFP by telephone.
Seven people had already died and hundreds been injured in political violence following the dissolution of Bangladesh's parliament at the end of its five-year term on Friday, reports said.
Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets after clashes erupted in the old part of the capital Dhaka after an Awami League march came under attack, witnesses said, adding that the attackers and police exchanged gun fire.
In the east of Bangladesh, the offices of the 1971 Bangladesh war veterans were ransacked during a march by the BNP-led four-party opposition alliance, the private Ekushey Television network said.
Tension was also high in nearby Munshiganj district where police have banned rallies and marches, it said.
