An Israeli soldier was killed Tuesday and several others injured when gunmen ambushed an Israeli Army patrol along the Jordan-Israel border. The initial ambush, which severely wounded two Israeli troops, escalated into a large gun battle in which an Israeli soldier was killed, and several others wounded. Israeli Cobra and Apache helicopter gunships were called in and fired intensively into the heavy undergrowth on the banks of the Jordan River, after which the Israeli army recovered the bodies of two Arab gunmen from the scene of the shooting.
