A roadside bomb exploded near an Iraqi National Guard patrol south of Baghdad, killing three guardsmen and wounding 11, an official said Tuesday.
The guardsmen were patrolling an area near Jebala, located some 40 miles south of Baghdad, when the attack occurred, an Iraqi National Guard official said.
In the meantime, a U.S. Marine assigned to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force was killed in a vehicle accident Tuesday in Anbar province, west of Baghdad, the military said.
The military issued a statement saying the Marine was "killed in a non-hostile motor vehicle accident ... while conducting security and stability operations" in Anbar. An investigation has been launched into the death of the Marine.
Elsewhere, two churches were bombed Tuesday in Mosul, wounding three people. Deputy provincial governor Khasro Gouran told the <i>AP</I> one explosion hit a church about 2:30 p.m. in eastern Mosul's Wihda neighborhood, injuring three people.
An hour later, gunmen stormed a church in western Mosul, ordering a handful of people outside before bombing it, Gouran said.
