British Prime Minister Tony Blair has been hit Tuesday by two resignations from his government over the looming war against Iraq.

This time his junior health minister, Lord Hunt and Home Office minister John Denham, announced they are stepping down.

Hunt has told BBC Radio he has decided to resign from the Government because he does not support the pre-emptive action to be taken without broad international support.

He also said there was no clear support of the British people.

In a statement, Denham, who became minister of in June 2001, said: "I have this morning resigned from the Government as I cannot support the Government in tonight's vote. "I met the Prime Minister this morning to explain my reasons. I also spoke with the Home Secretary. I hope to speak in the debate later today."

His decision follows Robin Cook's resignation Monday as Leader of the House of Commons. "I cannot support a war without international agreement or domestic support," the former Foreign Secretary told a packed House. "Neither the international community nor the British public are persuaded that there is an urgent and compelling reason for this action in Iraq."

On Tuesday night, British MPs are expected to vote on whether they back war against Iraq. (Albawaba.com)
