Thalassemia screening, charity drive and patriotic march mark National Day celebrations at Emirates Post
Emirates Post launched the UAE National Day celebrations with a special program, the highlight of which was a thalassemia screening drive and a patriotic march, outside the Deira Main Post Office, today.
The event was planned on the colours of the UAE flag. The red was for blood screening. The black was for donating abayas for charity. The white was for donating kanduras. The green was for donating money. All collection will be donated to charity organizations, under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Affairs.
The thalassemia screening for employees of Emirates Post was managed by UAE Genetic Diseases Association, and was aimed at supporting the association towards achieving its goal of eliminating thalassemia by 2012.
A group of scouts and several employees of Emirates Post took part in a National Day march, while children sang patriotic songs and performed national dances, in front of the Deira Main Post Office which wore a festive look, resplendent in the national colours of red, green, white and black.
“We wanted to do something more meaningful for the National Day,” said Mr. Ibrahim Bin Karam, CEO, of Emirates Post. “The thalassemia screening drive was our way of raising awareness about the genetic disease, and we hope this will encourage more people to screen their blood to check for genetic disorders.”
