ALBAWABA - Thailand announced attacking Cambodia, targeting its military positions on Monday, according to a statement by the Thai army.
The air strikes came following a dispute and clashes on the border between the two neighboring countries.
AFP reported that a Thai soldier was killed in border clashes, for which both countries are trading blame.
Thai army spokesman Winthai Suvaree accused the Cambodian troops of firing on Thai forces early Monday morning in Ubon Ratchathani province, "the Army received reports that Thai soldiers were attacked with supporting fire weapons, resulting in one soldier killed and four wounded".
Furthermore, the spokesperson mentioned that Thailand had started "using aircraft to strike military targets in several areas" to suppress attacks by Cambodian forces.
On the other hand, Cambodia's defence ministry spokesperson Maly Socheata accused Thailand of starting the attack on Cambodian troops in the border provinces of Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey.
She said Thailand "fired multiple shots with tanks at Tamone Thom temple" and other areas near Preah Vihear temple.
