Hundreds of police officers are searching for a gunman who opened fire on a youth club for homosexual teens in central Tel Aviv Saturday night leaving two people dead and 12 others wounded.

Nitztan Horowitz, Israel’s only openly gay lawmaker, described the attack as a “hate crime.”

“This is the worst attack ever against the gay community in Israel,” he said. “This act was a blind attack against innocent youths, and I expect the authorities to exercise all means in apprehending the shooter.”

Tel Aviv’s police said it has launched an investigation into the incident. Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the man fled the scene by foot. According to witnesses, the gunman was dressed all in black. Police have since said up roadblocks throughout the city.
