The Iranian judiciary has requested the international police agency - - Interpol to arrest a pro-reformist it accuses of spying for the United States, according to a statement carried in various newspapers late last week.
Ali Reza Namdar Haghighi is wanted in connection with the trial of a group of pro-reform opinion pollsters, caught up in a judicial backlash after they published a survey showing the majority of Iranians favor resuming dialogue with Washington.
According to the statement, Haghighi had "infiltrated an Iranian ministry and established contacts with foreign intelligence services and counter-revolutionaries based outside the country."
It called on Interpol to intervene, without providing details on which country he had sought refuge, but said his job was to "aid the entry of American and foreign intelligence services into Iran". (Albawaba.com)
