A teenage mother faces five different charges in a UAE court for attempts to sell her baby for $2,700 last week, reported the Gulf News on Thursday.

The 17-year-old Arab girl has been charged with selling a child, having an illicit relationship, having an adulterous pregnancy, threatening the life of a seven-day-old baby and giving false information, said the paper.

The couple who helped the mother in her effort to sell the baby has been accused of selling a child and giving false information.

When the sale came to light, the three were arrested and referred to the prosecution, which started an immediate investigation.

The accused had come to the UAE on a visit visa. She had a relationship with a Gulf state national whom she claimed made her pregnant.

Dubai police received information about the offer and set a trap. A policeman pretended to be a buyer and agreed with the girl's associate on when and where the baby would be handed over – Albawaba.com
