In a bid to step up the emiratisation process for positions such as Human Resource & Personnel Managers and Supervisors in the private sector, the National Human Resource Development Authority (Tanmia) has announced today the launch of the Tanmia National Human Resource Competition 2007 involving 75 students from Zayed University, Higher Colleges of Technology and UAE University. The first-of-its-kind competition is being held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Ali Bin Abdullah Al Ka’abi, Minister of Labour and is exclusively sponsored by Technip Abu Dhabi. The theme of this highly focused competition is ‘How to become a successful HR professional’.
Tanmia will assess the capabilities of 75 students from the three universities to identify and select those UAE Nationals who have the potential and aptitude to become HR & Personnel Managers and Supervisors. After the preliminary assessment rounds, four students each from the three universities will be shortlisted, from which four candidates will be finally selected based on the results of both competency-based assessments and a contest which will be held on the opening day of Careers UAE 2007 on March 13.
Tanmia has partnered with Dubai Institute for Human Resource Development (DIHRD) for conducting assessments and providing reports. The students taking part in the competition will be assessed based on their communication skills, problem solving and decision making abilities, leadership skills and results orientation levels.
“The position of HR managers in private sector companies is a challenging one and requires the candidate to possess multiple skills and capabilities. The purpose of organising this competition is to tap the potential of qualified and talented youngsters who can be moulded to become successful HR managers and supervisors in today’s demanding job environment,” said Dr. Ali Ahmad Bin Abood, Under Secretary of the Ministry of the Government Sector Development and member of Tanmia’s Board of Trustees.
“We are confident that after the final selection round during Careers UAE 2007 we will have four very capable candidates who will perfectly fit the available job requirements in private companies. This initiative by Tanmia will also go a long way in achieving the goal of emiratisation of HR positions as required by the government,” added Mohammed Jassim Ibrahim, CEO of Dubai Institute for Human Resource Development (DIHRD).
The exercises that the 75 candidates must undergo include Personality Profile, Role Play, Group Discussion, Case Analysis and an Ability Test. At the end, one-on-one feedback reports will be produced highlighting the strengths and areas for development for each of the participating individuals.
