National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia), was yesterday (Monday, May 29, 2006), awarded a certificate of appreciation by Dubai Civil Aviation (DCA) for being one of the Best Service Providers in the year 2005. The award was presented by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman of Emirates Group, to Feddah Lootah, Director of Finance and Administration, Tanmia, at the 8th Annual DCA Supplier’s Forum that was held at Hotel Al Bustan Rotana, Dubai.

Tanmia was presented with the prestigious award in recognition of its outstanding services during 2005 and for its cooperation in fulfilling the requirements of Dubai Civil Aviation. The Supplier’s Forum focuses on the areas of quality, technology and strategic partnership with members ranging from all sectors of the industry.

Speaking at the Forum, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, said, “Our focus today is on building a strong alliance between all sectors of our national economy in this age of globalization. While Dubai has managed to carve out a special place in the world of travel, tourism and business, we now need to ensure that we stay ahead, and the only way to do so is by focusing on quality and increasing our service standard.”

“DCA’s commendable achievements would not have been posible without the help of our suppliers and strategic partners, and I would like to thank all our partners for their continued support towards our efforts to provide quality services and products,” he added.

In November 2005, DCA had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tanmia for employing a large number of UAE Nationals registered with the Authority. Tanmia nominated a selection of candidates from which DCA chose the most suitable ones to undergo a training programme consisting of classroom and on-the-job training, prior to being employed in the Customer Service Department and as Security Screeners.

Tanmia, the National Human Resources Development & Employment Authority in the UAE, was established by a Presidential decree in November 1999, to address the imbalance in the labour market, due to excessive dependence on expatriate workforce. Tanmia is engaged in a coordinating role, between national job seekers and employers in the private and government sectors, to facilitate increased entry of nationals in the labour market. The responsibilities that rest with the Authority are: to set up the overall policy of the Authority and supervise its implementation, conduct sustained operational and administrative labour market studies and analysis, provide career counseling and guidance to the national work force, follow-up and evaluate employment of nationals in public and private sectors, support small investment enterprises through the establishment of self-employment projects for national human resources and develop programmes for training and qualifying nationals seeking employment, in conformity with the labour market needs.
