The Taliban have blocked the road connecting to Darqad district of northern Takhar province with the provincial capital, Taloqan, residents and officials said on Wednesday.
Haji Atta Mohammad, a resident of Darqad district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the road between the two towns remained blocked for the past three days.
He said the Taliban had planted bombs in Alnaq area on the road and people could not travel on it.
“Late on Tuesday, a woman who was walking on the road was blown up by a roadside bomb,” he said.
Takhar governor’s spokesman, Sunatullah Timori, confirmed the road blockade.
He said the Afghan forces had reached to the area to clear the road from landmines.
“There are rumors that Afghan forces have been surrounded by Taliban which are baseless, only the road has been blocked and there is no other problem,” he said.
Taliban have not yet commented on the road blockade.
Darqad is an unstable district, which briefly fell to Taliban last year.
