Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was in China on Tuesday to promote commercial relations between both countries, which have surged since he vowed to boost economic growth upon taking office four years ago.
The Syrian leader arrived Monday evening on the five-day visit - the first by a Syrian president to China.
He was expected to meet President Hu Jintao and other senior leaders before traveling Thursday to Shanghai, China's commercial center.
Leaders were also expected to discuss the Middle East
peace process and Iraq. (Albawaba.com)
