Syria has agreed to supply Lebanon with 80 megawatts of electricity, reported the Daily Star on Saturday.
The power will be provided through two lines, one in the North and the other in the Bekaa. Each line will handle 40 megawatts per day.
The paper said that Lebanese Energy and Water Minister Mohammed Abdel-Hamid Beydoun received a phone call from Premier Rafiq Hariri, advising him of the agreement. Hariri had held a series of contacts with his Syrian counterpart, Mustafa Miro, culminating in the power supply agreement.
Sources at the ministry said the move would increase electricity in the North and the Bekaa, and help reduce some of the power cuts which have plagued those areas. It will also benefit Beirut, Mount Lebanon and the south, the sources added – Albawaba.com
