Syrian President Bashar al-Assad received on Wednesday Director of the Middle East Center for Peace and Economic Cooperation in the United States, Wyne Owens and an accompanying delegation.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Farouk Al-Shara and US ambassador to Syria.

In the course of the meeting, talks centered on current regional issues in addition to bilateral relations between Damascus and Washington, according to Kuwait’s News Agency.

Al-Assad, for his part, emphasized that the loss of hope, rights, dignity and sovereignty are the main factors behind the escalation of violence and conflict and that stability and security would not be established unless the occupation ends and the rights and lands are restored to their legitimate owners.

Moreover, the Syrian leader stressed that his country is working with the international group for the sake of reaching a peaceful solution in Iraq and make it avoid, along with the region, a war nobody knows where it may lead, and that any act in Iraq should be done in line with the UN’s evaluation and resolutions.

For their part, the members of the US delegation expressed satisfaction over the discussion and expressed desire to intensify the dialogue. (Albawaba.com)
