In Syria, Tishrin daily on Tuesday emphasized that President Bashar al-Assad was “quite clear” in the course of his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell with regards to the latest developments in the region and the massacres taking place against the Palestinians as well as the requirements for a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
The daily, cited by the Syrian Arab News Agency, stressed that Powell can “do a lot” by ending Israeli aggression and providing the circumstances for re-launching the Mid-east peace process.
Furthermore, it pointed out that such a situation requires Washington to view matters with the perspective of a superpower that is committed to peace.
Meanwhile, the al-Ba’ath daily made clear that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon can not be a man of peace by any means.
The daily described all the maneuvers of Sharon as “dirty, exposed and categorically rejected”.
Meanwhile, the Al Thawra daily expressed surprise over the U.S. description of the Palestinians as terrorists.
The daily indicated it was ironic that the first terrorist in the world, namely Ariel Sharon had embarked the U.S. media campaign against terrorism, under the leadership of the United States. (Albawba.com)
