Tishrin daily on Wednesday expressed pessimism over the outcome of the recent meeting between US President George W. Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon regarding the peace process and the lifting of the siege imposed on the Palestinians.

The Syrian state-run paper affirmed that Premier Sharon is carrying with him plans for a “new series of massacres against the Palestinians, including acts for displacing them for facilitating the capture of new Palestinian territories.”

Concerning the Iraqi issue, the paper stressed the contradiction in US policy, which accused Baghdad with non-compliance with the Security Council’s resolutions at a time when it gives itself the right to launch war against Iraq without referring to the Security Council.

Furthermore, Tishrin urged Arabs not to run behind “ambiguous” promises made by Washington, that has no other objective but to facilitate its military operations against Iraq. It also called on them not to drag themselves into an American war “which is targeting not only Iraq, but the entire region.”

On its part, the Al-Thawra daily on Wednesday expressed regret over the “passive stance” manifested by certain Arabs before the major dangers which lie on the door steps of the region, either through the bloody policy of Israeli leader Ariel Sharon or through the American threats against Iraq.

The state-run paper denounced the positions of those, whom under the slogans of “flexibility” and “political realism” accept bowing before the American dictate, calling for the end of the Palestinian Intifada and resistance against the Israeli occupation.

The Syrian paper, moreover, called for making an objective revision to the “state” of certain Arab parties, and for returning back to the right track. (Albawaba.com)
