A Syrian human rights group on Tuesday criticized a "decline" in freedoms in the country, claiming 30 Syrians and a Palestinian had been arrested in the past couple of months for their political beliefs.
This "constitutes a flagrant violation of the rules of justice, the law and the constitution, which guarantees the freedom and integrity of citizens," the Human Rights Association of Syria said in a statement.
It called on authorities to prevent the security services from harassing people and unconditionally release the "prisoners of politics and conscience in Syria."
It said several of those recently detained "participated in protests and sit-ins in support of the (Palestinian) uprising and against the American aggression in Iraq." (Albawaba.com)
