Media reports in Syrian state-run papers have slammed Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s policies with regards to the Middle East and urged Arabs to unite and support the Palestinian resistance. The official Syrian Arab News Agency reported Wednesday various comments published in several of those dailies.

Tishrin daily on Wednesday affirmed that Sharon government was attempting to circumvent the bases of a just and comprehensive peace “which was approved by the international legitimacy” emphasizing that the Israeli government “aims at adopting its own criteria on peace”.

In its editorial, the Syrian newspaper said, “Arabs are fully committed to the international legitimacy resolutions” and any attempt to “surpass the legitimacy would lead the region to a real danger”.

The daily urged the international community to defend its prestige and international legitimacy.

Meanwhile, Al-Thawra daily affirmed that Arabs, “are now more than ever called upon to unify their ranks and initiatives on the official and popular levels in order to reinforce their solidarity with the Palestinian People and their resistance against the occupation”.

“Israel will never change its stance as long as it receives support from the U.S administration which will not practice any pressure for forcing Israel to abide by the international legitimacy”, the paper added.

“It has become very urgent for the Arabs to elaborate a strategic plan for explaining the rightness of their cause to the whole world and to convince the U.S administration that its Israel, and not Iraq, which is threatening the region, and that its Israel which creates the crises and problems in order to push the region in the direction of wars and conflicts” the paper said.

In yet another article written in Al-Thawra, the daily affirmed that the U.S declaration with regards to peace “is prepared for local consumption and for calming the Arab side” highlighting that these declarations “do not reflect Washington stances and policies in the region”.

“Time has come for the world to say its word and to face the Zionist state and its danger”, the paper concluded.

Meanwhile, Al-Baath deplored the absence of strong Arab solidarity in facing the highest level of Israeli aggression, “The national resistance is the appropriate response to the occupation which is resorting to all forms of violence”. (Albawaba.com)
