Syrian Arab Airlines will buy new planes next year as aircraft prices have dropped following the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States, the director of the company said.
However, Adnan Shujaa, quoted by the Tishrin newspaper Sunday, did not specify the number of planes the state-owned airline planned to acquire to add to its current fleet of six Airbus A320s and six Boeing 727s.
Shujaa said that since September 11 the company had reduced the frequency of flights to seven destinations, and undertaken other cost-cutting measures to save 1.2 million dollars a month.
He said the company lost 2.2 million dollars in September, while revenue for the month was 21.4 million dollars, down from a projected 23.6 million dollars – Damascus (AFP)
