ALBAWABA - A convoy consisting of 11 trucks and carrying 201 tons of flour has entered Sweida city after most of the governorate's bakeries stopped operating for two consecutive days due to a shortage of flour supplies.
Syrians in Sweida have been suffering a lack of bread due to the siege imposed by armed factions linked to the interim government, leading to the closure of roads linking Damascus, Homs, and the south, halting or reducing flour transport.
Syrian Arab Red Crescent announced in a statement on Facebook, "The Syrian Arab Red Crescent, with support from the World Food Programme, has delivered 201 tons of flour to Sweida."
It added, "The 11-truck convoy is part of SARC's ongoing 75-day humanitarian effort in the southern region. The flour will be used by local bakeries to ensure a steady supply of bread for families."
Sweida needs approximately 120 tons of flour daily to provide bread for residents. There are 45 bakeries operating in the governorate, covering part of the demand. Over the past two weeks, approximately 15 convoys loaded with flour have arrived in Sweida, but the quantities are insufficient to meet daily needs.
