ALBAWABA - Syria is expected to launch the first flight between the capital Damascus and Aleppo city for the first time following the collapse of the Syrian regime under Bashar Assad's rule.

The Syrian Minister of Transport revealed last Monday that Damascus International Airport may be able to receive flights within a week.

He added, in statements to Al-Arabiya, that all airport employees have been requested to return to work in preparation for the resumption of work and flights.

The airport had previously issued a "NOTAM" flight safety notice to pilots, in which it confirmed the cancellation of all flights until December 18, and indicated the possibility of resuming work at the airport at 19:00 GMT on December 18.

Aleppo International Airport also issued a similar statement that it will be suspending all flights until the evening of December 17.

Damascus International Airport Director Anis Falouh revealed earlier that the airport will resume operations within days after all flights to and from the Syrian capital's airport were halted following the fall of the Assad regime.
