Damascus may have conducted airstrike attacks in western Iraq this week say U.S. officials, according to the Associated Press.
The U.S. official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to AP, did not offer any other details however.
The alleged strikes may have targeted the jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) who operates in both Syria and Iraq. ISIS has managed to take over five of Iraq's provinces within the past three weeks as well as the Al Qaim Syria-Iraq border crossing.
The official also noted that there was evidence that Tehran has sent surveillance drones to Iraq as well.
In related news from Iraq Wednesday, Reuters reported that a suicide bomber in the city of Kirkuk left four people dead and 16 wounded.
The bomber was allegedly stopped by police before he attempted to enter a market in a predominantly Kurdish neighborhood, police sources told Reuters.
