President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt has received a message from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad containing an invitation to participate in the forthcoming Arab Summit which is scheduled to be held in Damascus on 29 and 30 next March. Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Maollem conveyed the message to Mubarak in Sharm al-Sheikh on Wednesday.

Last week, the Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa has confirmed that the next Arab summit would be held in Damascus on March 29-30, 2008. The statement was given in a press conference Moussa held following the conclusion of a meeting of the Arab Foreign Ministers in Cairo. Earlier, it was speculated that the summit will not be held in Damascus due to the "negative" role of the Syrian regime in the Lebanese political crisis. ‏
