The last Syrian soldier will leave Lebanon on Sunday after 29 years, a senior Lebanese military officer said, according to The AP.
The announcement came as the largest number of Syrian troops to leave Lebanon in one batch vacated at least 10 outposts in the northern part of the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon Saturday night.
Scores of trucks carrying hundreds of troops and at least 150 armored vehicles were seen moving to the Lebanese-Syrian Masnaa border point, witnesses said.
"Tomorrow everything will be over," the military officer told The Associated Press Saturday.
Syria's chief of military intelligence in Lebanon, Maj. Gen. Rustom Ghazale is expected to evacuate his Anjar headquarters by Tuesday.
Meanwhile, ex-Premier, Rafic al Hariri's son said he will run in Lebanese general elections scheduled to take place by the end of next month.
In an interview with CNN, Saad Hariri added he had "full confidence" in a U.N. investigation into the Feb. 14 assassination of his father.
