Syria has begun sending information about its chemical weapons to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) as part of the US-Russia deal brokered earlier this month, according to BBC sources. The Hague-based OPCW has given a Syria a Saturday deadline to release a full list of its chemical arsenal. Michael Luhan, a OPCW spokesman, said that the received information is still being translated; he declined comment regarding its contents.
The OPCW announced that its scheduled Sunday executive council meeting would be postponed. No reason was given, but the postponement will delay the OPCW vote to determine a detailed timetable for the destruction of Syria's chemical weapon arsenal and may delay plans to have inspectors on the ground in Syria in November. The rescheduled meeting will be announced as soon as possible according to an OPCW statement.
