Syrian foreign minister Farouq al-Shara arrived in Beirut Monday, sent by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, to inform Lebanese officials on the results of the Egyptian-Syrian-Saudi summit, which took place in Sharm al-Sheikh.
On his arrival, al-Shara was received by Lebanese foreign minister, Mahmoud Hmoud.
The Syrian envoy is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Lebanese President Emile Lahud, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Rafiq al-Hariri, according to Kuwait News Agency KUNA.
In addition, Al-Shara will review with the Lebanese officials, regional developments and calls to hold an international conference.
Meanwhile, an official media source told the news agency that al-Shara would inform Lahud on the Sharm al-Sheikh talks over the future of peace in the middle east, in wake of the "four-man" meeting of the foreign ministers of the United States, Russia, Spain and United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan.
Al-Shara's visit, according to KUNA, will be appropriate in coordinating the first meeting of the Arab peace initiative committee due in the Lebanese capital Friday and Saturday.
The committee groups foreign ministers from Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Bahrain and Yemen, in addition to the Secretary General of the Arab League. (Albawaba.com)
