ALBAWABA- In a historic diplomatic breakthrough, Qatar has successfully mediated a swap deal between the United States and Venezuela.

 Senior US officials announced an agreement to release 10 American prisoners in exchange for the freedom of businessman Alex Saab, a close ally of President Nicolas Maduro.

 According to a non-governmental organization (NGO), Venezuela has released 21 political prisoners, including 8 American citizens.
CNN reports, based on information from a senior US administration official, that the negotiations facilitated by Qatar were pivotal in securing the release of detainees. 

The official expressed gratitude for Qatar's efforts, highlighting that the talks between Venezuelan authorities and US officials were instrumental not only in the prisoner exchange but also in laying the groundwork for competitive elections in 2024 in Venezuela. 

The diplomatic breakthrough signifies a positive step towards resolving longstanding tensions between the US and Venezuela.
