Suzuki Saudia, distributor for Japanese automaker Suzuki in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has announced an increase of 187 percent in SUV sales in the first half of 2006, compared with the corresponding 2005 period. Suzuki Saudi’s robust performance in the sector has been driven by the success of Suzuki’s Grand Vitara SUV, which recently saw a complete redesign revitalizing its presence in the sector.
“The Grand Vitara has witnessed rising popularity with young people and small families looking for a versatile SUV that can be civilized and refined, but can also go off-road at moment’s notice. The car’s base power has been increased with the introduction of a 2.7 liter V6 engine, outstripping other SUVs in its class. Essential safety features haven’t been neglected either and models include standard side curtain airbags, an electronic stability system with traction control, and antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution,” said Ahmed Shamaile, Director of Sales, Suzuki Saudia.
With class-busting features such as Smart Key entry, the robust Grand Vitara is well equipped right out of the box, and carries one of the best warranties in its class. With a wider and longer wheelbase than previous models, the Grand Vitara offers greater interior room for driver and passenger comfort, yet does not compromise handling and maneuverability. The rigid, lightweight uni-body structure is teamed with four-wheel independent suspension to provide precise handling both on-road and off-road, while advanced technology helps reduce engine maintenance.
The Grand Vitara is fitted with a smooth-shifting five-speed manual transmission as standard equipment. Other standard features include air conditioning with automatic climate control and micron air-filtration system, cruise control, digital clock with outside temperature and fuel consumption indicators and adjustable center armrest with internal storage. The standard sound system features an AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA unit that is XM Satellite Radio-ready.
“The Grand Vitara has emerged as a dominant player in Saudi Arabia’s small-SUV market sector. Robust demand by Saudis and expatriates has allowed Suzuki to establish a significant presence in the SUV market, and we are expecting sales to continue their upward trend as our customer base grows progressively,” Shamaile added.
Overall, 42 percent of Suzuki SUV units sold have been purchased by a resurgent corporate sector looking to replenish hospitality fleets, while 31 percent have been purchased by individual consumers. The public sector and various dealerships have contributed the remaining 27 percent of sales.
