Osamu Suzuki, Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation, one of the leading automobile manufacturers in the world, has been recently recognized by the Indian government with its prestigious Padma Bhushan award for his outstanding contribution to the country’s economy. Suzuki has been in the helm of the global company which presently captures 54 per cent market share in India. The corporation entered the Indian market in 1982, selling 20,000 cars in its first year. Since then, Suzuki Motor Corporation’s market share has increased rapidly, with the company selling 630,000 of the 1 million and 160 thousand total vehicles demanded by the Indian automotive market in 2006.
The Padma Bhushan has been awarded by the Office of the President since 1954 and is considered the third most prestigious civilian award in India. It recognizes individuals from all fields who have contributed to the country’s development. Mr. Osamu Suzuki’s award recognition has put him in the company of distinguished recipients like former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshirou Mori.
