Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Tuesday vowed that his country will continue with its nuclear program, but said that he rejects nuclear weapons. According to him, Iran seeks the peaceful use of nuclear energy and "we will strongly pursue and reach it despite the envy of our enemies."
Khamenei also stated "no wise nation" is interested in nuclear weapons. "No wise nation today would be interested in making a nuclear weapon. They are against rational thought. Nuclear bombs are not beneficial as they cannot be used... They (Iran's enemies) know nuclear weapons are useless."
"We are seeking nuclear energy for peaceful purposes for daily use and we will continue this path to the envy of our enemies. We will mightily achieve this aim."
He spoke at a ceremony Tuesday honoring the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, founder of the Islamic republic.
On Monday, U.N. atomic watchdog chief Muhammad ElBaradei asked for more clarity from Iran about a possible nuclear weapons program.
