Sun Announces its Commitment to Fund Three IT Projects in Jordan

Sun Microsystems has announced the completion of three IT projects which were highlighted at the Dead Sea Forum in March 2000, according to a press release published at AME-Info. 

At a press conference held in Amman recently Sun said it has outlined the scope of the projects it has implemented in Jordan, in association with its local partner STS, and in close collaboration with the Royal Court. 

Bassem Awadullah, director of the economic department at the Royal Hashemite Court said in the official statement that "Jordan is a 'Small Country' with 'Big Ideas', therefore, we require the assistance of major IT players such as Sun Microsystems to take our ambitious IT plans through to fruition, Sun is assisting us in the academic and e-commerce sector which will be instrumental in helping Jordan reach its goal of becoming a technology-led economy.” 

"Sun is very enthusiastic about Jordan's plans to embrace the Net Economy and to position itself as an IT powerhouse in the Middle East region," said Hellmuth Broda, Chief Technology Officer, Sun Microsystems, EMEA. "Jordan is a very exciting  

emerging market and we would like to be actively involved in assisting the country to achieve its goals in the IT sector," he added. 

Currently, over 80 percent of the Internet backbone traffic and 54 percent of Internet Service Providers (ISP's) run on Sun's technology – Albawaba.com
