The Nusra Front claimed responsibility late Saturday for an attack that targeted a Hezbollah checkpoint in northeast Lebanon. The militant group said the attack destroyed one 57 millimeter cannon but did not elaborate.

At least three were killed in a suicide bombing which targeted a Hezbollah checkpoint in east Lebanon Saturday evening, security sources earlier told The Daily Star.

But Hezbollah's al-Manar TV said the blast left no casualties.

The bombing, which occurred in the village of Khreibeh near the border with Syria, came one day after the killing of three Army soldiers in the Bekaa Valley.

The attack also came as Army units pounded positions of radical Syrian rebels on the outskirts of the northeastern town of Arsal.

Soldiers Mohammad Daher and Ali al-Kharrat were killed in a roadside bomb in Arsal Friday hours before the Nusra Front executed captive soldier Mohammad Hammieh.

The militants from the Nusra Front and ISIS are holding at least 21 soldiers and policemen they captured during their brief takeover of Arsal last month.
